Cynical Staredown

Is it more cynical of me to want to shoot holes in all the Back2Back weekend horseshit or them for doing it?

Is the level of faith moving into this season so low the team feels the need to roll out the fluffy old bones of Kelly Gruber, Jimmy Key, and Joe Carter to keep us plebes interested? What gift is usually associated with a 17th anniversary? Gold? No. Paper? No. Must be horseshit.

Am I just looking for something to complain about? Am I a terrible person for not caring, AT ALL, about seeing 50 year old guys that were good when I was a kid?

What the fuck is a Fanfest? Will I get to meet Scott Rolen? Why won't Doc return my calls? Does it hurt when you rape a corpse?

I have so many questions, there are so few answers.

  1. Winning back-to-back World Series titles is not easy. It has never been easy, and it never will be easy. The Jays should celebrate that shit every chance they get, while the guys who played for those glorious teams are young enough to walk around the field, and meet fans, both young and old.

Why horseshit? Why can't we appreciate what is so God damn hard to do in baseball?

The amount of negativity thrown on the Jays, no matter what they do, is disappointing and disheartening.

I don't need an anniversary to celebrate. Every time I make my way to the Dome I look up at those banners with pride and remember that the Toronto Blue Jays did indeed accomplish something crazy special when I was a child.

  2. I acknowledge it's difficult, and something to be lauded. I don't want to end up like the Leafs (no offense), celebrating non-events just for the sake of celebrating something.

What does bringing all these guys back celebrate? Their availability on a Friday night.

I just don't see the point, or the value in dragging these dudes on to the field hoping to distract from (what they believe apparently) a lackluster on-field product. And that's a shame.

  3. If you do something over and over it loses its worth.

17 years is a bullshit grab at money and the Canadian news headlines.

Wait till 20/25 years and watch the goosebumps go on top of goosebumps and the eye balls water.

  4. Is this a cash grab by Rogers? Possibly.

    Will it work? Yes.

I'd rather they do something than nothing at all. It will cultivate a lot of warm & fuzzy feelings from the early 90's.

  5. I shouldn't have said "worth, I should have said "weight".
